Standing outside the classroom door, I’m a bit nervous about opening it. Thoughts and questions race through my mind.
“What the hell am I thinking? I haven’t got a creative bone in my body. Can I really do this? Will I be able to handle it? I’ve never even been on Twitter before. Besides, I’m on the wrong side of 40. I have kids to feed, responsibilities be be responsible for…”
Lost in thought as I contemplate the door knob, a nearby voice cuts across my uncertainty.
“Go ahead,” it says. “Do it!”
I know that voice.
I look and see the tiny imp – an odd, little version of Ricky Gervais – sitting on my shoulder, grinning up at me, his feet dangling lazily. He leans closer towards me. “Go on. Open it!” he adds. “You know you want to.”
He’s right. I do want to.
And so I do.
Oh well… it’s too late to turn back now! Looking forward to meeting and collaborating with you and swimming in all your brilliant ideas.

Hopefully, I’m half as smart as the cat is. Thanks for stopping by, Professor.

Great start! Your writing style is engaging – a solid base. And….I think the right side of 40 myself.
